Most people don’t get enough of these particular nutrients

Lunch Hour Lesson #48: Choose whole food supplements for best digestion and absorption
In my nutrition practice, I do like to focus on food first before recommending isolated nutrient supplements. However, all of the supplements on this top 5 list are actually whole-foods themselves, so they can easily be a part of a daily diet without the risk of causing nutrient imbalances.
Also, these supplements are all safe for any age and stage, from children to adults, pregnant women, and the elderly.
I will list where you can purchase each of these, but I also do sell a few of them for a 10% discount through my online dispensary. Please contact me if you are interested in this.
Collagen Protein:
Support for hair, nail, connective tissue, and skin. Joints feel better. Skin is plumper with fewer wrinkles. Nails and hair grow stronger. What I use: Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (blue canister). Can purchase at most health food stores, Costco, or on their website.
Emu Oil:
Highest source of Vitamin K2, which is the primary vitamin to move calcium to where it needs to be in the body: the bones, vs. where it often ends up: in joints (arthritis), kidneys (kidney stones), arteries (calcification of arteries), muscle (excessive cramping). What I use: Walkabout Health Products Emu Oil. Can purchase on their website. The liquid is more cost-effective than the capsules.
Astaxanthin:
One of the most effective natural antioxidants; more potent than Vitamin C, Vitamin E, blueberries, coffee, etc. Protects against free radical damage that can lead to cancer. Specifically protective of skin and eyes from UV exposure, and improves muscle recovery after athletic performance. What I use: BioAstin Hawaiian Astaxanthin. Can purchase on Amazon.
Cod liver oil:
Traditional remedy for immunity and disease prevention. Good source of the EPA and DHA, which are powerfully anti-inflammatory Omega 3 fatty acids. Better than “fish oil” because it also contains vitamins A and D in a balanced ratio. What I use: NutraPro International Virgin Cod Liver Oil. Can purchase on Amazon or on their website.
Whole-Food Multivitamin/Multimineral:
Some feel that a multivitamin is unnecessary if you’re eating a “healthy” diet, but since most food is not as nutrient dense as it used to be due to soil degradation, I put this in the “can’t hurt and probably necessary” category. VERY important to get a high quality brand that is directly processed from whole foods vs. synthetic vitamins and minerals. What I use: MegaFood. They have multiple formulations for women, men, women/men over 40, prenatal, and kids. Can purchase on Amazon.
Please let me know if you have questions about any of these recommendations!
Weekend Tip
Research one of the brands that I recommend in this week’s lunch hour lesson and decide if their product is something you would be interested in incorporating into your daily diet.
